We have a couple of updates to the remainder of the calendar, including the return of an old Sealed Surface Venue – Fort Street Council car park in Sandown (Opposite the late Bogeys under the Slide)!

Following Round 10 at Atherfield This Sunday the balance of the season will go as Follows.

Round 11 Sunday 6th October Little Palace farm Gurnard (USS)

Round 13 Sunday 20th October Fort Street Car Park Sandown (SS)

Round 14 and 15 remain the 9th and 10th November commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Healey club coming down to the island!

Charity Motorsport Festival Huge Success!!

Thank you to those of you who supported the event over the weekend, we hope everyone enjoyed themselves!

This lead to us raising over £1300 across the 2 day event which coupled with the clubs existing charity fund which has been accumulating over the past few years, and generously matched by Steve Wells at Garden Isle Hotel’s means we are able to present a check to the Kissy Puppy Fund for a little over £3300!!

This Money will go to creating a children’s unit at the IOW Hospice to offer a service which currently would involve going over to the mainland, so a very worth while cause indeed!

Plans are already afoot for a bigger and better event next year so if there is any feedback, advice or suggestions for next years event please do get in touch!

Round 7 Write up – Knighton Sandpit

One 100th of a second splits Dan Morgan and Darren Taylor

The closest finish ever

This was to be the third unsealed surface (USS) meeting of the 2013 campaign and with the weather being blistering hot all week it was set to be dusty and with little wind to clear the dust it left the potential of driving into your own dust making vision at times limited, but this was not to put off the hardy competitors of the Isle of Wight Car Club.

First to set the pace was Darren Taylor in his Mazda 323 (known in the club as the king of Knighton) but hard on his heals was Neil Glasbey and then John Dutch ,Terry Steel , Steve Brett , and then Ryan Munt.

As the day moved on Darren Taylor was setting better and better times, not to be left out Neil Glasbey , Dan Morgan , Ryan Munt were also coming on strong. John Dutch was doing his best to hang onto the leaders. After the first three runs It looked like Darren Taylor was on for another win at Knighton but Ryan Munt had his own plan and put in a stunning time of 78:34 seconds, closely followed by Dan Morgan on a 78:41 seconds . Then on the 6th and final run Dan Morgan set a time of 77:38 seconds , which pushed Darren Taylor into second place with his time of 77:39 seconds , with Ryan Munt on a 78:34 seconds having to settle for 3rd place overall this time. He was followed by Neil Glasbey on a 79:43 seconds and then John Dutch on a 79:74 seconds ..

Not only was Dan Morgan and Darren Taylor one 100th of a second apart but a full second ahead of Ryan Munt in 3rd place .

Outstanding driving from both Dan Morgan and Darren Taylor

Round 6 Report BAE Systems

07-07-2013

The latest round of the Isle of Wight Car Club championship was held last Sunday at the BAE Systems car park. It was a blistering hot sunny day but not as hot as the drivers championship was getting. RUN 4 .. Saw Dave Dutch finally set a competitive time of 53.13 sec, after suffering with fuel pressure problems for his first three runs. Hot on his heels was Toby Allen on a 53.20 sec then Dave Goodwin on 53.29 sec , John Dutch on 53.33 sec , Dan Morgan on 53.50 sec , Chris Greenen on 53.89 sec ..

RUN 5 .. Once again saw Dave Dutch set a target time of 52.48 sec for the others to reach, Andy Williams got close on a 52.64 sec with John Dutch hard on their heels with a 52.91 sec , then Dan Morgan on 53.42 sec , Neil Glasbey on 55.33 sec , Andrew Foster on 55.73 sec .

RUN 6 .. Saw the top three drivers Dave Dutch, Andy Willliams and John Dutch unable to improve on there times but Dave Goodwin did with a 52.96 sec and also Toby Allen on 52.98 sec and then Chris Wilson on a 53.75 sec ..

It was a very close competition for all the top drivers. But Dave Dutch managed a super time on his 5th run that was enough to give him his second win of the 2013 season.

ROUND 5 USS 23-6-2013

ATHERFIELD

Ryan Munt takes His second (USS) win

A long awaited venue for many as it gave an opportunity for a large open track layout to be set out and a great track it turned out to be. The weather forecast was cloudy with possible showers, thankfully the showers stayed away.

First to set the pace in RUN 1 was Neil Glasbey posting a time of 1:17:02 closely followed by Wayne Hole, Steve Glasbey, Vicky Cox and then Andy Williams.

RUN 2..  Saw Dan Morgan post a time of 1:14:68  followed by Neil Glasbey  on 1:14:82 and then Ryan Munt with a time of  1:15:09 and Andy Williams on a  1:15:29 ….

RUN 3.. The track grip was now getting much better and the times were getting closer but Ryan Munt laid down a time of 1:11:26 which no one else in run 3 got anywhere near so could this be the winning time…

RUN 4.. Saw Dan Morgan light up the timing with a 1:13:38 followed by Wayne Hole on 1:13:48 and Andy Williams on 1:13:70 then James Robbins on 1:13:84 …

RUN 5.. Saw Andy Williams pull out of nowhere a stunning time of  1:11:44 which no one else could get near in run 5 ..

RUN 6.. THE final chance for everyone to get there fastest time and knock Ryan off the top of the leader board BUT no one could improve there times apart from Darren Taylor with a time 1:12:17 which moved him up to 4th overall..

All a bit too close for Ryan but his RUN 3 time of 1:11:26 was enough to give him his Second win of the 2013 season..

Congratulations to Ryan on a great drive and his win

Good Evening Members!

Been a quiet month for IOWCC but fear not next Saturday (yes Saturday) the 8th June see’s us at St George’s football ground in Newport for round 4 of the season.

Afraid this is one where if you just want to watch, or know you will have friends wanting to watch, unless they arrive prior to 9:30 and are staying to the end of the day we cannot provide parking. The Football club have also asked that we don’t use the lay-by on the road either so if you want to come to spectate you’ll have to park away from the venue and walk in please.

Drivers, as ever please try to sign on in advance with PayPal through the clubs website.

Your committee have also been beavering away with plans for the charity event spread over 2 days August the 10th-11th. We’re hoping the membership support this event as they did last year, helping us make it even bigger and better than before. Details to follow shortly but suffice to say all the key ingredients any petrol head would require to have a cracking weekend are being put in place – save the date in your diaries please!

All the best
