Unfortunately due to the restrictions of lockdown 2.0 The Isle of Wight Car Club are unable to run any motorsport events until further notice.
After consulting with the government, Motorsport UK has retracted all motorsport permits in the UK, this will stay in place until such times that the government allow motorsport to continue.
With 3 events to go in the IOWCC championship it has been decided to postpone these events rather than cancel them.
The hope is that motorsport will be allowed to continue in December, giving us until the AGM in march to run these events (our club championship runs from AGM to AGM).
Because of the uncertainty of the situation we are unable to fix dates, however, we know club members just want to enjoy participating in motorsport and as soon as we are permitted we will set the dates and venues.
For those that had already entered and paid for the Healey weekend, your entry fees are safe and they can be held as credit for when we restart, however, please remember you will still need to complete a new entry form once entries for the new events are open. Motorsport UK confirms the suspension of non-elite motorsport in England until early December

Monday 02 November 2020

Motorsport UK has consulted on the implications for motorsport in England with the Government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport in respect of the plan to enter a four-week national lockdown on Thursday 5th November.

The governing body confirms that following DCMS guidance it must suspend all non-elite motorsport until 2^nd December. Selected elite events officially recognised by the DCMS, which include the British Touring Car Championship, will be permitted to continue.

Motorsport activities in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands are subject to prevailing government guidance in those devolved territories. At this time, motorsport as organised sport continues in Scotland, in accordance with Motorsport UK’s comprehensive restart guidance introduced on 4^th July. Motorsport is currently suspended in Northern Ireland and Wales, as mandated by the respective devolved governments.

In respect of permits issued for non-elite events in England between 5th November and 2nd December, Motorsport UK confirms that those permits are now withdrawn. Organisers will need to reapply if they plan to hold the event at a later date.

Motorsport UK will continue to monitor the prevailing advice from the UK Government and that of the devolved nations and ensure the motorsport community is updated.

Motorsport UK would like to thank the entire motorsport community for their resilience and hard work throughout the summer months to keep motorsport running and operating safely. During the coming weeks we will be working hard to ensure that as soon as government guidance allows, motorsport can safely resume once again.

Isle of Wight Car Club event Healey Weekend BAE 07.11.2020 College 08.11.2020

Entries are now open for the Healey weekend 7th and 8th of November. Saturday at BAE and Sunday at the IOW college. Both days are individual rounds of the car club championship, however, the fastest combined times of Saturday and Sunday in each class will win a trophy, the overall fastest combined time will take home the converted Turbine Trophy. Head to our website and enter both days. Entries close at Midnight on Wednesday the 4th of November Unfortunately you have to enter and pay for each event individually (sorry)

We are no longer permitted to allow spectators at any of our events due to new Motorsport UK Covid 19 rules. Please do not encourage non competitors to attend

 

There is now a requirement for all participants to wear a face mask in all areas of the venue at all times if you are unable to maintain a 2 meter distance

you MUST wear a face mask at ALL TIMES when in front of the club trailer.

 

 

 

Round 3 video

After the last championship event at BAE back in March, it was great to get back to some grass roots motorsport on the Isle of Wight again. 24 drivers competed in Round 2 at the Isle of Wight College.

With the threat of rain, drivers were keen to get out and bag a decent time, however, there was a little trepidation as initially the course seemed complicated and treacherous thanks to the many unforgiving curbs but the course soon had the thumbs up from divers as it was smooth and flowing with a great mix open and tight technical sections favouring different types of cars and driving styles.

In round 1 the class 5 specials of Andy Williams and Chris Wilson were the first to go sub 1 minute setting the standard for all to follow.

Toby Allan was the next and only other driver to join the sub minute during round 2 in his borrowed Lotus owned by Matthew Price. (Brave man letting someone drive his lovely car around this curb infested venue).

By run 3 there were fewer wrong tests and drivers were reducing their times. New club members, Karl Robins, Martin Read, Steven Staff and Robbie Cooper were all improving on their times and seemed to be enjoying themselves. Many people shy away from motorsport as they feel it may be intimidating or put them under pressure to perform but those that give it a go all say how much fun it is. So come and have a go, you will not regret it.

Motorsport is one of the few sports in the world that is not sexist or ageist, however, the IOWCC do like to promote the participation of ladies within our club and for this reason we also like to award an additional prize for the fastest lady of the day. Tahnee Attwood, Karen Moore and Louise Wren were showing the lads how it is done, and it was Louise who took ladies’ honours at the end of the day finishing in a fantastic 12th place overall.

Class 1 and class 2 cars are for unmodified cars. Shane Parry was the quickest of the day in class 1 in his sub 1400cc Fiesta and Wayne Hole not only claimed the class 2 win in his standard MX5 but also took 3rd place overall.

Class 3 and 4 are for modified cars and Dave Goodwin took his classic mini to a class 3 win and Toby Allan in his borrowed Lotus crashed through the competition to take the class 4 win.

Class 5 is for heavily modified saloon cars or specials and these lightweight race cars are hard to catch at the best of times but today the time gaps were huge. 2^nd place Andy Williams in his special was a full 3 seconds ahead of Wayne in 3rd place and Chris Wilson was a staggering 3 and a half seconds ahead of Andy giving him a very well-deserved class 5 and overall win.

In the end the rain stayed away, everyone followed the government and Motorsport UK Covid 19 guidelines and we are all pleased motorsport is back on the calendar.

This must be the cheapest and most accessible motorsport available and for only £20 per event there is no reason why you should not give it a go. Isle of Wight Car Club event

• No passengers may be carried which rules out Production Car Autotests.
• Unless drivers are from the same household – Car sharing is not permitted so its only one driver per car for the day
• Sanitisers, masks and gloves are being provided by Motorsport UK for our first event if needed.
• Driver Briefing will be sent out in advance online as there will be none at the event.
• Competitor paddock car parking required 2 metre spacing between vehicles.
• Vehicles will only be touched by marshals and officials when wearing disposable gloves
• Use of portable toilets will be minimised so we will not be bringing the Club ones to the venues.

29 drivers competed at Round 1 of the Isle of Wight Car Club held at BAE in Northwood.
Excitement for the, now unfortunately postponed, Sandown Sprint encouraged many spectators to come and see how accessible grass-roots motor sport on the island can be.
For only £20 members of the Isle of Wight Car Club can compete in a day of forward only Autotesting. This consists of a driving challenge around cones, each driver has 6 attempts and their fastest time of the day decides their position on the leader board at the close of play.
Right from the start, long time club member and international rally driver Richard Weaver threw down the gauntlet posting a blistering time in his rally Evo.
Richard’s Evo was not the only car to wow the spectators. Adam Pomeroy in his Nissan R32 Skyline and George McFarlane in his BMW Z3 proved that posting your fastest time of the day need not be your primary goal, having fun and driving at the limits of your tyres’ adhesion can not only put a big smile on your face but entertain onlookers.

Class 1 may not seem as exciting as the more powerful fire spitting classes, however, if you would like to try this sport, an unmodified car under 1400cc is all you need. Shane Parry took class honors and also finished in 19th place overall ahead of some much more powerful machinery.
Louise Wren, Tahnee Attwood, Laura Parry and Karen Moore were competing for honors as the fastest lady of the day and this was deservedly won by Louise Wren.

Class 2 is the home of unmodified cars over 1400cc and was littered with MX5s, in fact 14 drivers sat behind the wheel of an MX5 in today’s event. These little cars may have a reputation as a standard issue mode of transport for all hairdressers, however, they are very competitive, cheap and fun to drive.
Wayne Hole in his class 2 MX5 narrowly missed the podium proving that, if you know how to drive, you can achieve a lot with a very basic car.
Class 3 is for modified cars under 1400cc. Dave Goodwin in his classic mini has always been hard to beat, however, Steve Glass fancies his chances for this year and has modified his MG ZR that he won the class 1 championship in 2019 in and is looking for another cup to add to his trophy cabinet. Dave managed to stay ahead of Steve for this event, winning the class and finishing 7th overall.
We had some inquiries from younger members aged 14-17, as they can now drive and compete with an experienced passenger at their side. We hope to see them behind the wheel at a future event.

Class 4 is for modified cars over 1400cc. Adam’s Skyline, Richard’s Rally Evo, 2 Subaru Imprezas, a Lotus Elise and a good smattering of MX5s all sit in this class.
John Cooper in his Mk2 Escort finished 6th place overall but was denied a chance to improve on his time as he snapped a half shaft launching off the start line during run 6.
Class 5 is for heavily modified cars or specials such as Josh Finch’s single seater special and Steve Wells’his Locost.
It looked like Steve Wells was set to stand on the second step of the podium, however, Joe Moore knocked him down a step in run 6 claiming 2nd place for himself. Despite being relegated to third place, Steve did claim the class 5 win.
Richard Weaver, consistently kept the second place driver at a considerable distance throughout the day and finished with a well-deserved win.
We would like to thank everyone who came to support the club during these difficult times and enjoyed a great day of motorsport.
However, due to worries about the spread of COVID-19, Motorsport UK have now revoked all organising permits until at least the 30th of April.
As a consequence the Island Car Centre Sandown Sprint, planned for 28th & 29th March, will be postponed until further notice.
The Autotest to be held at IW College on 5th April and also at Knighton Sandpit on 19th April are also postponed.
I am sure you were all looking forward to attending the Sandown Sprint on the 28th and 29th March.
