IOW College on Sunday!

Afternoon All,

Just a reminder we’re making our 2015 debut at the Isle of Wight College this coming Sunday the 12th for Round 6 of the calendar!

Usual rules apply; sign on closes at 9:30 sharp so please arrive with enough time to unload, leaving your car unlocked and available for scruitineering.

Charges are as usual – £10 in advance through PayPal and £12 on the day.

Finally it’s been noticed litter is being left at our events. Can I ask that we all work together to ensure those attending our events respect the venues so we can keep using them.

Treasure Hunt, BBQ, Social gathering, music and overnight camping.

Saturday July 4th – 3pm

Location.
“Frome west” Rew Street Gurnard PO318NN (Andy’s House)

The treasure hunt (in cars round the island) will be a fairly simple format. Some easy clues and some a bit more difficult/cryptic. A navigator or navigators will help and the price of the event is £10 per car, so no restriction on passengers.
There is no restriction on passenger ages either, so bring the kids we will have some fun clues as well

Time.
Sign on at 3pm. briefing at 3.30pm
First car away for TH at 4pm.
Duration ~2hrs.

Results and prize giving 6.45-7pm.
Barbecue 7pm onwards.

There will be BBQ’s supplied to cook your own food on.

Those wanting to drink can bring their own beer.

Daryl Turner has offered to supply music and DJ for us in the evening.

Camping will be available and a toilet block and facilities will all be made available at a cost of £3 per person. Those wishing to stay overnight may want to get there a bit earlier to erect tents etc before the treasure hunt (Anytime after 2pm)

Those not wishing or unable to participate in the treasure hunt can come just for the evening.

Partners and friends welcome, in addition to the BBQ and DJ there will be a Trampoline and bouncy castle.

Please can drivers ensure they drive sensibly to and from the venue, and respect the grounds when camping.

 

Round 4 Saturday 6th June

This Saturday see’s us back at St Georges Park Newport for Round 4 of the 2015 championship!

Anyone wishing to compete will need to arrive with time to prepare their car for scruitineering and be signed on by 9:30. First car away at 10am.

If possible please sign on in advance through paypal via the clubs website.

Please remember there is no spectator parking at the venue, anyone wishing to watch will need to park in Newport and walk down. Please do not park on the side of the road or in the lay by outside the grounds.

On 2nd of August we will be running a (Non championship) Gymkhana at BAE in Northwood. While giving our members the opportunity to try another discipline of Motorsport we hope to encourage some new faces to have a go at our events. We have invited “Stance Isle of wight” along who will be having a static meet at the same time, they expect to have anything up to 150 cars in attendance! IOWCC will be offering sign slightly later into the day in a bid to encourage some of their members and anyone else to have a go.

Further details around the structure of the day will be released shortly.

Round 2 Event Report – Ventnor Botanical Gardens

After finishing second last time out, Ryan Munt claimed overall victory at the second round of the 2015 Isle of Wight Car Club season, held at the Ventnor Botanical Gardens. The layout for the day’s action was extremely demanding, rewarding those with the skill and bravery to successfully extract the best time possible.
Munt’s closest rival on the day was Steve Wells, who was once again sharing with Munt. The two drivers were closely matched during the day, but before Munt’s final run, Steve Wells had a grip on the lead. Munt looked to be on maximum attack as he tackled the course for the final time, and his reward was a time of 57.61 – giving him the victory by just eight hundredths of a second.

Toby Allen came home third overall and first in Class Four in his Lotus Elise; He was the only other man to record a time below 60 seconds during the day. David Goodwin took the Class Three win in his modified Mini, taking a careful approach in order to lap the course without any time penalties for knocking over cones – Even Class Two victor Dean Long, who is well known for his Drifting, kept his Mazda MX5 composed due to the challenging nature of the layout.
Debutant Drew Howells took the Class One victory by less than a tenth of a second in his Mitsubishi Colt, closely followed by fellow rookie Charlie Turpin. Vicky Cox was the quickest woman of the day in her Peugeot 205.

Round 2 Sunday the 19th April

Well done to everyone who made round one a success, now from one of our smaller venues to something entirely different!

I’ve attached the check list our scruitineers will follow when inspecting your car, drivers are expected to leave their cars readily available for inspection so open, with the bonnet / boot unlatched.

Round 2

Next Sunday the 19th April see’s Round 2 at Ventnor Botanical Gardens.  Please if Possible use the advanced payment function with paypal on the website! If your trailering to the event please ensue you leave enough time to be directed to move your trailer to the trailer park prior to sign on, remember sign on will close at 9:30.

Will are going to continue trialling passengers at this next event, passengers will however need to hold a full drivers licence or MSA  race licence.

 

Only 1 week to go until Round 1 of the 2015 season begins!

Held at IOW Pearl on Military road on Sunday the 5th of April this will be the second time we visit the venue!

Please allow time to renew your membership / sign on for the event prior to the safety briefing at 9:30am!

Reminder on Passengers

We’re going to trial allowing passengers in with the driver at this event! There are a few things you
will need to be aware of if you plan to either be a passenger or wish to
have a passenger in with you.

• Passengers will be charged £6 and need to be either day or full IOWCC members. If you are already signed on as a driver then you will qualify to be a passenger already.

• Passengers must be at least 16 years of age.
• If you as the driver wish to have a passenger in your car then in accordance with the MSA rules you will have to compete with a passenger for every run on the day.

• If you want a passenger in your car, but not for all the runs then you as the driver are able to sign on under a second permit for an additional cost of £6. This will then allow you to pick and choose when you have a passenger, you will still only get 6 runs.

AGM & Awards Evening Friday 13th March

With under 3 weeks until the 2014 Awards evening & AGM it’s now time to

Held at the Chequers in Rookley on Friday 13th March £12.50 will get you a
carvery and dessert, if you have any special requirement please let us
know! Please can you get your payments in ASAP!

The evening will start at 7pm with dinner being served at 7:30, if you
just want to come for a drink that’s fine, you will want to be there by
8-8:15.

There is still a space on the committee if you would like to be involved
in the way the club runs, please get in touch if you wish to put yourself
forward!

Autotest Event Report!

The Isle of Wight Car Club organised a non championship Autotest on the 8th of February.

Unlike the normal forward only autotests run by the club, this event was a real test of driving skills.

 



27 drivers entered this event and vehicles used varied from a standard Ford KA to a single seater off road racer.

Autotesting is one of the most inexpensive motorsports available, As many participants had never taken part in this type of motorsport before, the first course of the day was a simple challenge, however, in the the afternoon a more complicated course was set to test everyones driving skills.

This autotest required participants to show their ability to follow a defined route around a set of cones, stop astride lines and change direction using forward and reverse gears. All this was against the clock, so maintaining momentum to minimise time loss during manoeuvres was essential. Handbrake turns, J turns and reversing were the order of the day.

Dean Long demonstrated some outstanding driving skills, drifting his MX-5 with pin point accuracy and topping the points leader board winning this event with a very respectable 5.1 second lead.

Wayne Hole also in an MX-5 navigated the cones with precision and claimed second place.
Toby Allan borrowed his mums front wheel drive convertible for this event and was rewarded with 3rd place proving that driving skills are more important in this type of event than a powerful car, however, don’t tell his mum.

Those with larger and more powerful cars also showed their driving skills and had an awful amount of fun by drifting cars such as BMWs and a four wheel drive evo around this tight demanding course.

This non Isle of Wight championship round allowed many drivers an opportunity to have a go at a type of motorsport they had never tried before. The overall opinion was that this was a challenging, fun event and a great way to get everyone excited about the upcoming season of forward only autotests organised by the Isle of Wight Car Club.

IOWCC 2015 Season Incoming!!

Happy New year everyone!

Here we are once again gearing up for what we hope to be another successful season’s Motorsport!

First item of business is for anyone fortunate enough to have won an engraved trophy (Not a replica) last season can it please be returned to any committee member no later than Sunday the 8th February so it can be engraved for the 2014 season winners at the upcoming AGM and awards evening!

Friday 13th March see’s us back at the Chequers in Rookley for the AGM and 2014 Season awards evening! There will be a meal at 7:30: £12.50 for a 2 course carvery, payment by the 2nd March please, either as cash to a committee member or through Paypal under the payments tab of the club website. If you’re not eating then the AGM & Awards will be kicking off shortly after 8:15.

We have decided to run a non championship event at BAE on the 8th of February, this will be a much tighter Autotest than previous events, including reversing and J turns. We hope to have 2 different courses on the day, a simpler one to start with followed by something slightly more complex.

Big news for the 2015 season will be the introduction of passengers. Starting with Round 1 at Isle of Wight Pearl we will be trialing passengers in with drivers as an option to anyone arriving in an eligible production car. The hope is it will encourage drivers who find the prospect of learning the course on their own daunting to have a go, as well as helping new and old members find ways to reduce their times around the courses!

Lastly if you want to put your stamp on the way the club runs then please get in touch! There will be the opportunity for 1 or 2 people to be voted onto the committee at the AGM in March.
