The countdown is on with only 1 week to go to the 51st IOWCC Healey weekend! Where once again the prestigious Whirlwind Trophy will be up for grabs!

As with previous years we will be at BAE systems in Cowes on Saturday 8th, and the Isle of Wight College on the Sunday 9th. We will not be allowing Day members at either round, so if you wish to compete you will need to either upgrade your membership or sign up a new member. This is to guarantee our full members and those from the Healey club who have traveled down the highest number of runs we can.

This is always the busiest weekend of the year so please can drivers ensure they arrive in good time ensuring your car is ready for scruitineering and you are signed on by 9:30. Remember you can pay in advance through PayPal on the clubs website www.iowcc.co.uk/payments

The Healey club are staying at the freshwater bay hotel and have invited all club members for drinks on the Saturday evening to review performance from the day and discuss tactics for the next!

Due to building works at the IOW college we do not have the typical amount of space for pits and queuing we have grown accustomed to, therefore when you arrive in the morning can you please follow directions and try to park up as neatly as possible so we retain the maximum amount of space possible to test on.

As with previous years there will be an awards ceremony straight after the event on Sunday upstairs at the Bargeman’s Rest in Newport.

Finally we are seeing the same people are having to pack up after each event, if everyone could try to support this activity it would drastically reduce the amount of time its taking.

Firstly thanks to everyone who supported the motorsport festival with your help we were able to raise £1500 toward the kissy puppy fund!

Atherfield this coming Sunday 14^th for round 9 shortly followed by Round 10 2 weeks later on the 28^th! Please where possible utilise the online sign on function through the clubs website!

Please also note due to restrictions imposed on us by Sandown Parish Council Round 12 at Fort Street previously set for October the 26th is being moved back to Sunday 30^th of November.

Good Evening Members,

A reminder that the Motorsport Festival is this weekend! Kicking off at 10am on the Saturday.

Aside from the various displays and activities listed below there will be the opportunity to drive both days.

The Key thing to note is on Saturday only road tyres will be allowed on the course, this is to hopefully keep the track as smooth as possible and to encourage people to take their own cars around. If you think you know anyone who might want a go try and get them down to the showground on Saturday! Non members will be charged £15 for 6 runs! Members £10.
There will be the opportunity to experience as a passenger either a 240bhp MK1 escort Rally car or 300bhp Subaru Impreza Rally car. Spaces are limited and will be on a first come first served basis arms and legs must be covered and passengers must be a minimum of 14 years old. £15 for 3 Laps of the course.

On the Sunday Round 8 will ensue usual proceedings with usual tyre/car regulations, sign on from 9am briefing 9:30.

If you are a petrol head, part of a club or just a interest in cars and Motorsports then please keep the weekend free! If you have something you’d like to display, or are part of a club on the island who would like to participate then please let us know!

Entry to the event is free although we will be collecting for the Kissy Puppy island based charity.

The Itinerary for the weekend will be as follows – please keep checking back as we will be adding things all the time!

Saturday
– Gates open 10am

– Taster auto-test course open to anyone with a full driving licence in a road going car with normal road tyres. Helmets are required and we will have ones available to borrow.

– Passenger laps on a separate course in either a MK1 escort Historic Rally car and 300bhp Group N Impreza.

– Various Static displays from multiple local island car clubs

– Island trials bike club displays

– Car and Bike Auto Jumble

-Live music all day in the beer tent

– Drive in outdoor cinema

-Burger Van

– Pole Climbing

– Off road Go-kart displays

– Samba band

The IOWCC will be holding a championship round which everyone is more than welcome to watch and or participate in!

Drivers were greeted to near perfect conditions on Sunday 22^nd of June for the fifth round of the Isle of Wight Car Club Championship, and the second unsealed surface event, held at Atherfield Farm. The Farm played host to an open, varied and technical layout which included several hairpins.

The early runs were plagued by ‘wrong tests’, with many of the drivers knocking over cones or not taking the correct route on their first attempt. Steve Brett looked to be in the groove immediately, setting a 67 second time in his Mini, which put him on top of the time sheets after the first run. On his second run, Brett improved once more, setting a time of 64.46 seconds. However, it was not long before the four-wheel drive contenders inevitably took control on the off-road layout, with James Robbins achieving a 62.87 in his Subaru.

However, on his third run, Steve Brett was on the ragged edge, pushing to get every last tenth out of his little blue Mini. However, it was soon evident that he was pushing slightly too hard, as he tipped his car going through one of the hairpins, coming to a halt upside down. Marshals and fellow drivers ran over to help, and soon righted the car. Steve was unharmed, and assisted in pushing his Mini back to the paddock.

James Robbins improved once again on his third run, setting a time of 61.86 seconds. Toby Allen also looked promising in his Subaru, setting a time which could have taken the lead. Unfortunately, he over pushed, and missed the ‘stop box’ area at the finish line, meaning that he would be penalised and lose the time. On the fourth run, Toby set a time of 60.58, and this time it would go without penalty. Matthew Price, who was sharing the Car with Toby, set a time of 61.33, which would then be beaten by just one hundredth of a second, courtesy of James Robbins.

Matthew improved once more on his fifth run, setting a time of 60.50, which put him to the top of the timing sheets. Toby had set yet another quick time, but caught another penalty as he sent a cone flying during the run. However, it would all come together on the sixth run, with a time of 60.47, which was just enough to secure victory overall and in Class Four. Matthew Price remained second, while Ryan Munt moved up to third on his last run, at the expense of James Robbins, with whom he was sharing the Group N Impreza. Dan Morgan was fifth in his VW Golf, while Steve Brett, who made it back out onto the course and proceeded to drive even quicker, took sixth overall in the Mini, as well as Class Three honours.

The ever-sideways Dean Long took Class Two honours in his Mazda MX5, while Steve Glass took the Class One win in his Fiat Siecento.

The sixth round of the championship will be held on the 13th of July at BAE, while preparations are well underway for the IOWCC Motorsport Festival, which will be held on the 30th and 31st of August at the County Show Ground in aid of Kissypuppy.

Motorsport Festival

Please also note we are starting to ramp up the preparations for the
annual Motorsport festival at Northwood Showground.
Held over Saturday and Sunday the 30th and 31st of August were hoping this
will be a great weekend for the club and fellow motor enthusiast, below is
a rundown of how the weekend looks so far.

Round four of the IOWCC Auto-Test championship saw us at St George’s football club and as has been the way when we have been on tarmac, the heavens opened and open they did. With drivers not only wringing out performance from there chosen vehicle they where wringing out their overalls and the first runs of the day saw the iconic Mini of Dave Goodwin being chased hard by the shear power of Russell Hectors Impreza.

However with the track now being bathed by sunshine and drying fast the rest of the field came chasing hard and Dan Morgan started to assert his dominance on run two, however bragging rights where withheld from this run as both Dan and Kevin Richardson both managing to set identical times to the hundredth of a second!

By the third runs Dan was home and dry and managed to set a time some two second ahead of his closest rival. But the rest of the field where trading tenths of a second with second and third places constantly changing hands with some seven people vying for the podium.

Run four the drivers were starting to attack hard with the whole field of 23 drivers being covered by 8.2 seconds which included Dan’s lead of 1.3 seconds. Which meant that it was anyone’s guess as to who would be accompanying Dan on the podium?

Run Five saw all the drivers trying to find some big gains which meant that risks where being taken and some ten drivers either accrued penalties or failed the test and even the leader managed not to finish, was the pressure of an eroding lead getting to Dan??

Of course not, normal service was resumed on run six with Dan Morgan being the only driver to break into the sub 40 second bracket setting a time of 39:73 and taking the overall win. So the only question to answer now is who will be the best of the rest? With the Mini drivers looking set to mop up along comes Toby Allen, whom most of the day had been arguing with the foot of the table, to steal second place by posting a time some five seconds faster than his previous time. Third place went to Kevin Richardson.
