Motorsport is powered by people – competitors, volunteers, officials, teams and spectators who bring the sport to life every day. Creating a safer, welcoming and respectful environment for everyone involved is essential to the future of the sport. 

Motorsport UK supports this through two key areas: 

Safeguarding, which helps protect children and adults at risk and provides a clear and trusted route to raise concerns if someone may be at risk and Race With Respect, which promotes positive behaviour across the sport.

Together, these approaches help ensure motorsport remains a place where people feel safer, respected and confident to take part.

Any adult members undertaking ‘regulated activity’ at a car club event will be required to have a DBS check. This check is undertaken by Motorsport UK.

The IOW Car Club asks members to complete a suitability check as part of their annual declarations.

Report a safeguarding concern

If you are worried about a child or adult at risk, or the behaviour of an adult towards either of these, you should share these immediately. No matter how small you think the concern might be, let the Club Safeguarding Officer or Motorsport UK Safeguarding Team know.

You do not have to wait and it is important that you report any concern you have early. We strongly encourage any and all concerns to be reported.

If something does not feel right, contact the safeguarding team for a chat. We do not expect you to decide if abuse or neglect has taken place, but you do have a duty of care to share any concern that you may have, so that this can be dealt with appropriately.

Race with Respect 

Everyone involved in a Motorsport UK event plays a part in creating a positive environment for the sport. By taking part, whether as a competitor, volunteer, official, team member, you agree to follow the values of Motorsport UK’s Respect Code:

Through Race With Respect, Motorsport UK ask all members to commit to:

  • Helping create a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone involved in the sport
  • Acting with integrity and fairness in competition and conduct
  • Treating everyone with respect, regardless of background, identity or belief
  • Recognising that we all represent the sport and showing respect to officials, volunteers, competitors and fans
  • Respecting the rules of the sport and the authority of Motorsport UK officials

We all share responsibility for maintaining high standards of behaviour. If you witness behaviour that falls short of the Respect Code, we encourage you to speak up.
