IOWCC 2015 Season Incoming!!

Happy New year everyone!

Here we are once again gearing up for what we hope to be another successful season’s Motorsport!

First item of business is for anyone fortunate enough to have won an engraved trophy (Not a replica) last season can it please be returned to any committee member no later than Sunday the 8th February so it can be engraved for the 2014 season winners at the upcoming AGM and awards evening!

Friday 13th March see’s us back at the Chequers in Rookley for the AGM and 2014 Season awards evening! There will be a meal at 7:30: £12.50 for a 2 course carvery, payment by the 2nd March please, either as cash to a committee member or through Paypal under the payments tab of the club website. If you’re not eating then the AGM & Awards will be kicking off shortly after 8:15.

We have decided to run a non championship event at BAE on the 8th of February, this will be a much tighter Autotest than previous events, including reversing and J turns. We hope to have 2 different courses on the day, a simpler one to start with followed by something slightly more complex.

Big news for the 2015 season will be the introduction of passengers. Starting with Round 1 at Isle of Wight Pearl we will be trialing passengers in with drivers as an option to anyone arriving in an eligible production car. The hope is it will encourage drivers who find the prospect of learning the course on their own daunting to have a go, as well as helping new and old members find ways to reduce their times around the courses!

Lastly if you want to put your stamp on the way the club runs then please get in touch! There will be the opportunity for 1 or 2 people to be voted onto the committee at the AGM in March.

That’s it for now, hopefully see you on the 8th of Feb!

Christmas Bash, Round 14 Write up and 2015 Calendar!

Sat 20th December will host this years Christmas Social, Held at camphill social club from 7:30pm onwards, Buffet at 8.

There will be a free Buffet available to members that have confirmed their attendance  no later than 6pm Friday 13th December. You can do this by using the contact page on the website, messaging the facebook group, or contacting any committee member; Please do let us know if your coming!

Congratulations to Dan Morgan taking overall club champion for the 2015 season!

Despite early fears of wrong tests, the drivers were very quick to learn the flowing course. As the day progressed, a racing line developed, which meant all the drivers had to be very precise on their runs. Toby Allen proved to be the fastest and most precise throughout the day in yet another new car; a Lotus Elise which he describes as a ‘keeper’.

Kevin Richardson came home second in his Mini , doing enough to steal the 2014 sealed surface championship. However, Dan Morgan, who finished the day third on the time sheets, did enough to secure the overall championship.

Wayne Hole debuted a new Mazda MX5, however, due to a lack of dampening in the suspension, it was an incredibly bumpy ride. The Greenen family were once again fighting against each other as well as the rest of the field at the top of the table. However, due to the abrasive nature of the Fort Street surface, their tyres were bald by the end of the day.

Finally, provisional dates for 2015 are below!

Final Round this Sunday

Good Evening Drivers

It doesn’t feel long ago I was emailing to notify you of the first round of the season, yet here we are facing the concluding round of 2014!!

Sunday 30th November, Sign on from 9am until 9:30 sharp, Fortstreet Carpark Sandown.

As with last year we have access to the car park across the road, (to the rear of ye old Bogeys) therefore can all non competing cars, tow cars and trailers park there, this is to maximize the competition space for us to compete on!

Please note at no point should a non road legal car be used to drive between Fort street public car park and the stone car park behind bogeys. If you are trailering a non road legal car then please allow enough time to unload in the main car park before moving your tow car and trailer to the car park the otherside of the road. Like wise at the end of the event please load back up in Fortstreet carpark.

Can drivers also please ensure noise is kept to an absolute minimum prior to 10am.

Finally, if you haven’t seen it already Kev Richardson and Adam Wellar have put together some excellent event reports on Youtube, please see the IOWCC youtube channel to check it out!

Richardson Wins and takes the Turbine Trophy!

Kevin Richardson proved to be the quickest man of the weekend during the Isle of Wight Car Club’s 51st double header ‘Healey’ weekend in his Mini, posting the fastest overall times at both BAE Systems and the Isle of Wight College, despite competition from a vast field of drivers including members of the Austin Healey club. Dan Morgan came second at BAE on Saturday in his Caterham, though he was almost 1.5 seconds down on Richardson. Toby Allen was third quickest at BAE with his newly purchased Subaru, with Andy and Adam Greenen coming fourth and fifth respectively in their shared Mini. David Goodwin rounded out the top six in his road legal competition-spec Mini.

The following day, Richardson came under extreme pressure from Adam Greenen, with just one-hundredth of a second separating their fastest times of the day in what proved to be one of the closest rounds of the season; Toby Allen and Dan Morgan also came within a second of Richardson on the college layout, which had been slightly curtailed due to construction work. David Goodwin found himself using his unmodified Mini at College, following a driveshaft issue en route to the event for his usual competition car. He finished the day 24th.

The two rounds were not only counting towards the championship, but also towards the special ‘Turbine Trophy’ award, awarded to the fastest driver of the weekend. This year, it was Kevin Richardson who not only took the Turbine Trophy, but also an award for being the quickest Class Three driver of the weekend. Toby Allen took home the award for Class Four, while Dan Morgan took home the prize in Class Five. Darren Cole took home Class One honours in his unique Honda Logo, while Dean Long took home two awards for his performance behind the wheel of his MKII Mazda MX5, one for being the quickest Class Two driver, and another from the Austin Healey club due to his spectacular drifting style.

Vicky Cox was the quickest lady of the weekend in her Peugeot 205, continuing a good run of form from the previous two rounds.

After the weekend was over, Kevin Richardson was keen to thank Dutch Speed, who prepared his engine for this year, which has led to a very competitive 2014 sealed surface season for the Mini driver, culminating in his performances this weekend. With just one round left to run, the sealed surface championship is still very much up for grabs, with Dan Morgan and Kevin Richardson heading to the event at Fort Street, Sandown tied at the top of the points table.

1 week to Healey Weekend!

The countdown is on with only 1 week to go to the 51st IOWCC Healey weekend! Where once again the prestigious Whirlwind Trophy will be up for grabs!

As with previous years we will be at BAE systems in Cowes on Saturday 8th, and the Isle of Wight College on the Sunday 9th. We will not be allowing Day members at either round, so if you wish to compete you will need to either upgrade your membership or sign up a new member. This is to guarantee our full members and those from the Healey club who have traveled down the highest number of runs we can.

This is always the busiest weekend of the year so please can drivers ensure they arrive in good time ensuring your car is ready for scruitineering and you are signed on by 9:30. Remember you can pay in advance through PayPal on the clubs website www.iowcc.co.uk/payments

The Healey club are staying at the freshwater bay hotel and have invited all club members for drinks on the Saturday evening to review performance from the day and discuss tactics for the next!

Due to building works at the IOW college we do not have the typical amount of space for pits and queuing we have grown accustomed to, therefore when you arrive in the morning can you please follow directions and try to park up as neatly as possible so we retain the maximum amount of space possible to test on.

As with previous years there will be an awards ceremony straight after the event on Sunday upstairs at the Bargeman’s Rest in Newport.

Finally we are seeing the same people are having to pack up after each event, if everyone could try to support this activity it would drastically reduce the amount of time its taking.

Thankyou.
